Cities, towns, neighbourhoods: Tullimbar Village

Introduction

Currently under construction, Tullimbar is a mixed use residential development that has been explicitly designed as an alternative to the low density urban sprawl that characterises much new development in Australia. It aims to create a dense, compact, walkable community that will help residents reduce their vehicle use and increase social interaction. The development will feature a compact town centre, within a 5 minute walk for most residents using a network of footpaths. Significant local retail, commercial and community services are included in the masterplan, with the aim being to create a critical mass that will both provide local employment and encourage and enable people to access a range of services and facilities by foot or bicycle in the town itself, rather than by driving to Albion Park or Wollongong.
