Project Summary

Goal: The Optus Sustainable Transport Strategy is designed to increase the travel choices for employees to commute to Optus Centre Sydney in Macquarie Park, with an emphasis on improving access by sustainable modes of transport.
Key drivers: The relocation of over 6,000 Optus employees from 9 different sites across Sydney to one new build suburban campus, with limited public transport services (at the time) and limited car parking spaces provided the main impetus for development and design of the strategy.
Timing: Design commenced in 2005, implementation began in 2006 and relocation of employees to Macquarie Park took place during 2007. The Transport Strategy now forms an integral part of site operations and is on-going.
Scale: Optus Centre Sydney is Australia's largest corporate campus designed to accommodate over 6,500 people.
Strategy elements: Key elements of the strategy include new employee bus services, financial support for public transport costs, a charging mechanism to allocate parking according to need, priority parking to ride sharers (car pooling) and on-site infrastructure for cycling and walking; all supported by extensive engagement with employees.
Results: Monitoring data shows that the Transport Strategy is continuing to result in a high proportion of commute trips by active transport modes.
