Description/Context

The Fairfax Media headquarters were opened in May 2008 at One Darling Island Road, Pyrmont. Pyrmont is located on the shore of Sydney Harbour, west of the Sydney Central Business District, within the City of Sydney Local Government Area.

Before moving to this location, the company already had a commitment to sustainable commuting with 78% of staff commuting by non-car modes of transport to their previous city location (Darling Park, Sydney). Following the move to new premises in 2007, the company established the sustainable commuting project to focus on how to achieve similar goals at their new site. The project aimed to encourage as many staff as possible to take public transport, walk or cycle to work, and to ensure that the design of the new office facilities encouraged and supported sustainable transport choices by staff.
